| Location: west orange,nj, Member Since: Oct 11, 2012 Gender: Female Goal Type: Marathon Finish Running Accomplishments: My biggest accomplishment is that, a year and a half ago at age 52, I got my oversized behind off the couch and started running. Not that what I was doing resembled running when I started, as my daughter told me, it was more like "shuffling". I started with Couch 2 5K and progressed to the RTL Half Marathon plan. 7 months and 50 pounds (lighter!) later I completed my first half marathon . Some would say that where I am now still barely resembles running, but I love it, am continuing to progress, and am not the last person to cross the finish line, so it works for me! Short-Term Running Goals: 1. Reach my goal weight by the end of 2014 which will be 110 lbs. less than where I started
2. Finish my first full marathon, this October at the Marine Corps Marathon. I cannot think of a greater group to run for, or with, and am totally pumped, inspired, and honored to be able to participate!
3. That's year one. I guess for year 2, if I know myself, I will plan to complete another marathon so I can continue to better my running and my time... Clearly, I have not thought much beyond this October yet, it's kind of a major goal :) Long-Term Running Goals: In my lifetime.....
Maintain a healthy weight and active lifestyle. Continue to run every other day and to use that as a vehicle to explore new places, until no longer possible. Running and mobility are freedom. Personal: My cheerleaders:
My awesome husband of 29 years (since 1985)!
My son, age 24 and my daughter, age 21
And of course, my best running partner, my 1 and a half year old Australian Cattle Dog / Boxer mix, Carmen. We rescued each other, and she keeps me forever young.
They are my inspiration and they tell me I'm their "hero". Without them, nothing would have meaning. |

Fast for me, bearing in mind that I started at run/walking at 16:00+.....now that I'm actually following a plan that addresses this I think there will be some legit progress. I am aiming to run with the 5:30 pace group in the marathon. Just the upcoming weight loss alone is supposed to be worth almost 2 min. off my mpm pace. Dare to dream, LOL
Read the best quote this a.m. which reminded me of my absolute hero, my dad, who was a huge fan of John Wayne: "Courage is being scared to death - but saddling up anyway." I know in my heart that dad's watching over me, cheering me on ;)

| | My sister is here visiting from CA so it has been hard to discipline myself. I put off Saturday's run to Sunday, which wasn't the end of the world, but then today I was really feeling terrible....I've had a cold for a few days, so I put off my 10 mile run. I'm determined to get plenty of rest tonight and get out there tomorrow so I can stay on schedule. Fortunately, I have a little leeway the way my schedule is set up. I have gotten a nice early start on training to allow for unexpected things like this cold.

| | Kind of a run/walk combo after 5 days of sickness. Even though it was 82 (summer's here, I guess) and it sucked what little energy I had out of me, it felt good to get back out there! Looking forward to resuming training this weekend :)

| | This was supposed to be 10 miles yesterday, but honestly my legs were so sore from all the hills in our neighborhood on Sunday and with temps in the low 90's I put it off an extra day. Fortunately, almost feeling back to "normal". Lots of walking on off days this week and will get back into the gym for cross training next week. The best I can hope for, like anybody, is no more interruptions to the schedule due to illness, injury, etc.

| | Strength training.....legs today plus core work. Getting psyched - I have done most of the FIRST Half Marathon Training Program by way of review and getting back in shape; starting the FIRST Marathon Training Program July 1st (16 weeks spread over 17 in case of unexpected interruptions), will be ready to go!

3x800 @ 12 mpm, exactly challenging enough for now, but I can tell it's getting easier
